We have a dedicated Club Welfare Officer, James Rebbitt, where further enquiries regarding this subject can be directed. Visit our ‘Meet the Team’ page to see who’s who, what qualifications they hold and details of any Enhanced DBS certificates issued.
We play home matches on grass at Eton Wick Recreation Ground (see homepage for directions), which we share with our host sponsor Eton Wick Football & Social Club. This includes access to changing facilities. Our teams also practice here on Wednesdays from 5.15 to 6.15pm (Easter to September) then at Eton College Tennis Centre, SL4 6DW, the rest of the time.
The Club season roughly follows the academic calendar. For season 2023/24, we will resume training in early September. Membership fees will be taken, playing kit issued and player registration completed around this time. We are members of Thames Valley Football Development League, who’s fixtures take place on Sunday mornings (kick off times are usually around 10am). First game of the season is 10 September. Matches are every Sunday except between Christmas and New Year; Easter weekend; and the first Sunday of the October and February school half terms. The season finishes at the end of April to mid-May. This works out at around 22 matches (total home and away) a season.
At the Foundation Phase (age 5-11) children follow the mini soccer format as set out by The FA. At U7 to U8, this means 5-a-side football on 40 x 30-yard pitches, using a size 3 football. Matches last 40 minutes and are divided into quarters. At U9-U10, children play 7-a-side football on 60 x 40-yard pitches for 50 minutes divided into halves. These formats are classed as Development Football. In short, children are naturally competitive when they play football. They learn better when they are matched by ability and the games are close. It is the role of the League to group teams of similar ability together for this purpose. The other key aspect of Development Football is that matches are non-competitive for most of the season, meaning results and league tables are NOT published. The league then permits 2-3 trophy events within each season, which allows children to learn about wining and losing in what should be a fun environment. See resources page for mini soccer rules.
Our season 2023/24 subscription will be £110. This will cover all fees for the full season and includes a new Nike home kit. Additionally, we are able to offer a payment plan for anyone who may wish to take this up. Do get in touch if you would like more details.
The challenge facing virtually every grassroots club is having enough willing volunteer coaches to keep up with the demand from enthusiastic children who just want to play football. We are looking out for parents/carers who support the concept of positive play as set out in the ‘Club Philosophy’ and who would be interested managing/assisting a side. While candidates would ideally have some experience and hold the Introduction to Coaching Football (FA Level 1) standard as a minimum, the Club has supported volunteers with the process, including covering costs. The Club will continue to do so where it can. The Club will also facilitate vetting checks to obtain an FA-accepted enhanced DBS certificate, which everyone must have before they can take on the role. Enquire for more information.
We are seeking players for a U9 Squad. Enquire for more information. We are currently operating a waiting list at other age groups.
